Occupational Therapist
OTR, CDRS
I grew up in Mound, Louisiana. I graduated from Louisiana Tech University and received my B.S. in Kinesiology & Health Promotion. I received my masters in occupational therapy from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans in 2013. Since then I have worked in a variety of settings including acute care, inpatient rehab, outpatient rehab, and private practice settings in Louisiana, Virginia, and Texas.
I am a licensed occupational therapist (OT). In 2017 I received my Neuro-IFRAH certification in the treatment and management of adults with hemiplegia from a stroke or brain injury. I have additional training for the evaluation and management of visual and perceptual impairments. My special interests include driver rehabilitation, community re-integration, and vision rehab.
I am also a certified driver rehabilitation specialist (CDRS). As a CDRS I work with individuals with disabilities, neurological conditions, or age-related conditions that may affect their ability to drive safely. The goal of a CDRS is to help individuals maintain as much independence as possible while ensuring their safety on the road. This could include evaluating a person’s physical, cognitive, and visual abilities as well as making recommendations for adaptive equipment to make a vehicle more accessible.
I am also a LSVT BIG Certified therapist. Therapists with this certification have completed intensive training with the LSVT BIG program, a treatment protocol specifically designed to help individuals with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions improve their movement and overall quality of life.
Core Values:
Compassion, Creativity, Growth
Most of my experience is in neurological rehab working with clients with stroke or a brain injury. I also enjoy working with adults with autism, low vision, and intellectual disabilities.
I would like to fix the accessibility challenges that still exist for people with disabilities in our community today. So many places and basic items are not accessible to everyone. We still have a lot of work to do!
I love working with clients in their home environment. I can see the challenges the client may be having first hand and give them feedback or practice in their actual environment.
My favorite podcasts:
- Freakonomics Radio
- The Everygirl Podcast
- This American LifeWhen
When I’m not working I enjoy traveling, trying new restaurants, exploring Texas, and spending time with my family. You can usually find us at a park, Target, or at our neighborhood spot eating Mexican food.
